PPS , Vredepeel

We expected this machine to be more suitable (compared to plowing) in a number of trials in which adjacent fields had to be worked individually. This expectation was met. With the Ecomix, we do not have to deal with issues such as end furrows, which means that these trial fields remain more level and cultivation operations are easier to carry out than when individual fields are plowed separately.

We have indeed made good use of your machine in Vredepeel for two years. Here are some of our experiences:

  • We conducted a trial with cress seeds to examine the mixing of the soil in comparison with standard plowing. We scattered cress seeds over the soil, then tilled the soil and dug it up in 5 cm layers to allow the cress to germinate in containers. We clearly saw that with the Ecomix, the cress was spread over the top 10 cm of the soil, while with plowing, most of the cress was found at around 20-25 cm.
  • Compared to non-inversion tillage with a fixed tine, we noticed that Ecomix provided more fresh soil, making it easier to prepare a good seedbed. Crop and green manure residues are also better incorporated when working at a shallow depth. This has advantages for mechanical weed control.
  • Compared to plowing, we noticed that more weeds and crop residues remain at the top, which require more attention either before or after.
  • We expected this machine to be more suitable (compared to plowing) in a number of trials in which adjacent fields had to be worked individually. This expectation was met; with the Ecomix, we do not have any problems with, for example, a final furrow, which ensures that these trial fields remain more level and cultivation operations are easier to carry out than when individual fields are plowed separately.
